Fancy Diamonds – this specialized asset class remains a rock-solid investment

While white (colorless) diamonds experienced another significant price decline of approximately 13% in 2024, the market for fancy diamonds remained stable in Q4 2024. Despite global economic uncertainties and challenges, this resilience further underscores the enduring appeal of fancy color diamonds.

At major auction houses such as Christie’s and Sotheby’s, fancy diamonds achieved record-breaking prices in 2024, with demand continuing to rise. Landmark sales, such as a 1.56 ct. fancy red diamond fetching nearly $2.7 million per carat or a 7.00 ct. fancy intense purplish pink diamond selling for $3.4 million, have become almost routine in auctions dominated by fancy diamonds. Auctions provide the most transparent price platform for customers worldwide, reflecting real-time market value and demand. They serve as the perfect indicator of what to expect in 2025. The market outlook clearly remains bullish.

Looking back, 2024 was not only an exceptional year for major auction houses but also for the entire fancy diamond market, with record-breaking sales at premium prices. This reaffirms that fancy color diamonds, due to their uniqueness and rarity, are among the most sought-after investment assets in the world.
